5. NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training


The NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training is intended for learners aged 16 and over and focuses on the role and scope of a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer. The qualification is mapped to the CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer professional standards.

The NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training is designed as a 1-year, full time course.

What will I do?

The NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training will provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to work as a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer in a variety of settings.

The Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training requires learners to successfully complete 12 mandatory units:

- Anatomy and physiology for exercise
- Maximising the customer experience in a gym environment
- Supporting client health and well-being
- Conducting client consultations and gym inductions
- Planning and reviewing gym-based exercise programmes
- Instructing and supervising gym-based exercise programmes
- Applied anatomy and physiology for activity, health and fitness
- Client motivation and lifestyle management
- Programming personal training sessions
- Delivering personal training sessions
- Nutrition to support a physical activity programme
- Business acumen for personal trainers

Entry Qualifications

Five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, where possible, including English Language and Maths (although this will not prevent entry to the programme where learners demonstrate appropriate behaviours and attitudes towards their ongoing English and Maths development)

or

a relevant Level 2 qualification, such as a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport, plus an ability to operate at Level 2 in either English or Maths.

In addition:

- Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended
- The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

COST

The cost of this tuition is fully funded for 16 to 18 year olds.
Sports kit may be required, dependent on education site. However, bursary/financial support is available for those eligible. Refer to the SCL Bursary Policy for further details.
