Boston United have beaten off several higher ranked clubs to land the services of in-demand Barnsley centre-half Jack Cowgill.

The 20-year-old, who enjoyed a successful loan spell in the National League with Braintree Town in 2016-2017, has put pen-to-paper on a contract at The Jakemans Stadium.

The six-foot, two-inch defender is the Pilgrims' third new recruit following the arrivals of goalkeeper George Willis and defender Bradley Beatson from Gainsborough Trinity over the weekend.

United boss Adam Murray was thrilled to land Cowgill and said: "It's definitely a coup for us to land a player of Jack's calibre.

"He was in demand from clubs higher up the pyramid but he has turned down those advances to join our project at Boston United.

"We are delighted to have him here."

Cowgill also spent a brief loan spell with National League North champions AFC Fylde towards the end of the season.
