In a special competition run by Blue Square Bet, the Pilgrims had been allocated Piazza San Pietro in the 2.05pm race. But the 50/1 outsider finished down the field (16th out of 28 runners).

The £1,000 prize for that race (plus £2,300 bonus for a £100 stake at starting price odds) went to Blue Square Bet South club Truro who drew 22/1 winner of the Stewards’ Sprint Stakes, Johannes.

In the main event, the Stewards’ Cup, the £2,000 top prize went to Blue Square Bet North club Hinckley United whose horse Hawkeyethenoo won at 9/1 — yielding an additional £1,000 bonus.
