Steelwork fabrication progressing well

By Craig Singleton

Boston United's brand-new Community Stadium at The Quadrant is on its way!

Work is due to restart on drainage and substructure works around the end of July — and the club's steelwork contractors Britcon (UK) of Scunthorpe have now provided the first glimpses of the steelwork under fabrication.

Steel erection is due to commence in early September and construction work is programmed with a view to playing football at the new Community Stadium in August 2020.

The Pilgrims are preparing to say farewell to York Street, with Chester FC arriving on Saturday August 3 to kick-off the club's final campaign at their famous old ground.

United chairman David Newton told bufc.co.uk: "We have been working hard to ensure that construction on the new Community Stadium re-commenced as soon as possible and I am now delighted to confirm that work will start at the end of the month.

"As I outlined at the fans' forum, work will be phased to give us the best chance of starting the 2020-2021 season in the new stadium. To that end we will focus on completing the West Stand and North Stand, along with the pitch and associated parking and infrastructure, as early as possible.

"We will, of course, keep fans abreast of progress on site. This is a very exciting time for the club as this new community facility finally takes shape. It is a key step to ensuring that the club has a long-term secure future."

Scunthorpe-based Britcon (UK) Limited are delighted to renew ties with its neighbouring Lincolnshire town of Boston.

In 2014, Britcon (UK) Limited installed St Botolph's Footbridge in the centre of the Boston and are now pleased to announce they have been contracted by Chestnut Homes to design and install the structural steel frame for the new prestigious Boston United Community Stadium.

Britcon director Nick Evans added: "Britcon (UK) Limited have been working alongside Chestnut Homes' design team and recently commenced fabrication of the steelwork for the main West Stand, which is due to be erected in the autumn of 2019.

"Britcon (UK) Limited will be fabricating and erecting over 350 tonnes of steelwork for this project and are grateful to Chestnut Homes for supporting the Lincolnshire economy by procuring the new Boston United Community Stadium from local contractors."
