Boston United chairman David Newton has issued a statement in relation to manager Dennis Greene.

Mr Newton said: “As you may be aware, first team manager Dennis Greene has recently been found guilty of falsely claiming benefits. At most football clubs this would be a serious issue, however with past events at Boston United prior to our tenure, this issue becomes very high profile and understandably fans wish to be informed of our position.

“Despite the club’s history, this matter has been dealt with in the same way that all other employment issues are dealt with at Boston United. Through a disciplinary process, we have been able to establish the facts surrounding the case.

“We have taken those facts into account, together with the fact Dennis pleaded guilty in an attempt to minimise the impact on Boston United; he is very upset by his actions and the potential impact on Boston United; he did offer his resignation; he will fully comply with the sentencing requirements and, very importantly, the false claims pre-dated his employment at Boston United.

“The Board of Boston United does not condone Dennis’ actions, but he has been punished already, therefore it was felt that further sanctions by the club would be unwarranted.

“Dennis has accepted the outcome of the disciplinary procedure and he will remain first team manager of Boston United Football Club.”
