The 19-year-old put pen-to-paper on a one-year contract at training on Saturday morning and the move was completed on Monday when the relevant documentation was received by the Football Conference and Football Association.

United assistant manager Martyn Bunce told bufc.co.uk: “We are delighted to get Jack signed up. We have signed him as a creative midfield player and we are sure he can make the desired impact.”

Barlow is the second outright signing of the summer following Dayle Southwell’s arrival from Grimsby Town.

Barlow himself was on Grimsby’s books until the age of 15 before completing a six-figure fee move to the KC Stadium.
