The month started with Bayliss left in sole charge of the club after the departure of his long-term joint manager at Holker Street Darren Sheridan. The Bluebirds went on to take seven points from a possible nine during the period including an impressive 1-0 home win over Luton Town, ending the Hatters’ long unbeaten run. Barrow moved up to 10th place in the table just five points off the final play-off berth.
In the Blue Square Bet North the manager of the month award for February goes to Nuneaton Town manager Kevin Wilkin. Boro have moved up to second in the table and have emerged as one of the key title rivals to long time leaders Hyde FC. Wilkin’s side won all three of their matches during the month, scoring 10 goals and conceding just one. A 6-1 win at Colwyn Bay kicked off the period in fine style and was followed by a quick-fire home and away double over promotion rivals FC Halifax Town.
The Blue Square Bet South manager of the month for February goes to Spencer Day from Farnborough. Day’s side had a 100 percent record for the month with wins away at Staines Town and Thurrock followed by a home success over Tonbridge Angels. A result which took their winning run to four straight matches as they moved into mid-table.
Sam Foley from Newport County has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier player of the month for February. Foley has been an ever-present for the Exiles during the month and has also stepped up to take captain responsibilities for Justin Edinburgh’s side. Kicking off the period with an FA Trophy goal against Carshalton Athletic, Foley also scored the only goal in a valuable league win over Mansfield Town and another in their only defeat at Tamworth. The Exiles eased their relegation fears while progressing to the FA Trophy semi-finals.
In the Blue Square Bet North the player of the month for February is Tom Ward from Boston United. Having been promoted from the reserves in pre-season, Ward has had an impressive first campaign in the centre of the Pilgrims’ defence. February featured two goals in successive Boston victories, which also saw the youngster as part of a backline which kept two clean sheets.
The Blue Square Bet South player of the month for February is Bradley Bubb from Eastleigh. Striker Bubb has been in fantastic form for the Spitfires following his loan move from Aldershot. After a debut goal in a 3-2 win against local rivals Havant & Waterlooville, he went on to score five more times including braces against Staines Town and Truro City. Bubb also contributed with a number of assists as Eastleigh, unsurprisingly, look to extend his time on the south coast.
