Boston United yesterday (Thursday) won their court case against Grimsby Town and former first team managers Rob Scott and Paul Hurst.

Scott and Hurst left The Jakemans Stadium in March 2011 and were quickly installed in the Blundell Park hotseat.

Boston United maintained that the pair had breached their contracts and that Grimsby Town had induced those breaches.

The judge commended the approach that Boston United took, both at the time of the departures and during the case, and ruled that the Grimsby contingent must now pay £10,400 in damages, £10,500 in costs and £510 in interest.

United chairman David Newton told bufc.co.uk: “We are obviously pleased that the judge found in our favour — vindicating the position adopted by Boston United in pursuing this case.

“We did try to settle this matter some months ago at a figure less than the damages now awarded and hence remain very sad that the matter had to be concluded in court.

“We had a great relationship with Rob and Paul and it was not pleasant sat on opposite sides of a courtroom.

“We are pleased the matter has now been concluded and hope that good relations can once again be restored with all the people at Grimsby Town Football Club.”

Boston United will make no further comment.
