The Pilgrims will be aiming to record their sixth successive opening day victory since returning to non-league football in 2007 but will need to end their hoodoo at the Butchers Arms to do so.
United have recorded consecutive first day wins over Workington (2-0), Ossett Town (3-2), FC United of Manchester (2-1), Stafford Rangers (1-0) and Workington (2-1) but have not enjoyed success at the Butchers Arms in recent years.
United’s run of 10 successive league clean sheets was ended by a 4-0 defeat at Droylsden in 2010 while last season’s 2-1 loss — after a dominant United performance — ended the Pilgrims’ play-off hopes.
The Pilgrims will check on the fitness of striker Spencer Weir-Daley, who missed United’s final pre-season friendly against Chelmsford City, while defender Tom Ward is the only definite absentee with an ankle injury.
Droylsden, who are managed by chairman Dave Pace, have recruited several new players in the summer, including FC Halifax Town midfielder Tom Baker and Guiseley striker Joe O’Neill.
Fancy a flutter? Blue Square Bet have issued their first odds of the new season. The Pilgrims are 7/4 to record an opening day win on Tameside. Droylsden are 11/10 to record a home win, while the draw is on offer at 13/5.
