United ready for FA Youth Cup showdown

United ready for FA Youth Cup showdown

Craig Singleton31 Oct 2011 - 10:55

Boston United travel to Burton Albion on Monday evening in the FA Youth Cup first round (kick-off 7.30pm).

The Pilgrims have overcome tricky qualifying round ties against Lincoln United, Mickleover Sports, Pinxton and Stourport Swifts to reach the first round proper and will now be aiming to cause an upset in the plush surroundings of the Pirelli Stadium.

United have contested first round action in six of the last eight seasons, but have only ever progressed to the second round on one occasion — in 2004.

Steve Welsh and Micky Nuttell expect to have a full squad to choose from for the trip to Burton.

Goalkeeper Marc Hipwell is back in contention — meaning Welsh and Nuttell will have to choose between the returning stopper and Josh Macann, who deputised in the last round.

Another choice is likely to arise up front with Joe Briers and fit-again Charley Sanders vying for inclusion alongside captain James Tricks.

Monday evening’s winners will be rewarded with a home tie against Bradford City or Marine in the second round.

United (from): Hipwell, Macann, Beauchamp, Briers, Delahoy, Devlin, Langan, Marr, Nuttell, Platten, E Price, Reed, Rossington, Sanders, Sturman, Towell, Tricks, Whitaker.
