The Pilgrims, smarting from Tuesday’s 7-2 home defeat against Oxford City, have collected 10 points from a possible 12 on their travels so far this season.
They were 3-1 victors at Bradford Park Avenue in their last away match, with striker Dayle Southwell netted twice — his third and fourth goals on the road to date.
Stockport, who did not play in midweek, are four points behind the Pilgrims (with a game in hand) and have recovered their home form well after an opening day 1-0 defeat to North Ferriby United.
They have since recorded comfortable home wins over Bradford (3-1) and Lowestoft Town (3-0).
United boss Dennis Greene will hope to welcome back defender Rene Steer from an ankle injury, but a knee problem looks likely to sideline Liam Marrs who limped out of Tuesday’s massacre against Oxford.
Last season’s corresponding fixture ended 4-1 in United’s favour, with Scott Garner, Marc Newsham, Spencer Weir-Daley and Ricky Miller on target for the Pilgrims.
Kick-off at Edgeley Park is 3.00pm.
