Boston United will attempt to take the first step on a successful FA Trophy run when they entertain Workington at The Jakemans Stadium on Saturday.

The Reds of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division currently boast a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions — and have eliminated Clitheroe and Witton Albion to date in this season’s FA Trophy.

United, meanwhile, are five matches unbeaten themselves and will be eager to overcome opponents who were relegated from Conference North at the end of last season.

The Pilgrims will be without the services of cup-tied striker Zeph Thomas, while midfielder Conor Marshall is a doubt with a knee injury sustained in training which forced him to miss last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Leamington.

Loan quartet Joel Dixon, Kyle Dixon, Greg Tempest and Mark Jones all have permission to play in the FA Trophy and could feature in a sixth straight unchanged United XI.

Workington, who drew 1-1 at Buxton last time out, are managed by Gavin Skelton and are currently 12th in their league but only six points away from the play-off places.

Last season’s league fixture between the Pilgrims and the Reds in Lincolnshire ended 5-3 in United’s favour.

The match is all-pay with season tickets not valid for the FA Trophy. Normal league admission prices apply in all areas of the stadium.

Saturday’s match referee is Michael George and kick-off is at 3.00pm.

Match coverage will be available via @bostonunited on Twitter.
