United targeting midweek home win

United targeting midweek home win

Craig Singleton10 Jan 2012 - 10:38

Bishop’s Stortford are Tuesday evening’s visitors to The Jakemans Stadium as Boston United chase an important home victory (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Pilgrims have dropped points to Eastwood Town and Blyth Spartans in the opening days of the New Year and will be hoping to avoid an unwanted hat-trick when 19th placed Stortford arrive in Lincolnshire.

A United win would take the Pilgrims eighth ahead of the FA Trophy fixture against Dartford at the weekend.

Tuesday’s visitors have won three of their last four matches since Rod Stringer took over managerial duties at Woodside Park — including an impressive 4-1 win over Guiseley on Saturday.

The Pilgrims were 1-0 victors in the reverse fixture in September, with Marc Newsham netting a stoppage time winner to tip the match in United’s favour.

This time around, United are likely to welcome back skipper Gareth Jelleyman (hamstring) but are unlikely to be able to call upon the services of joint manager Lee Canoville (back).

It is likely to be an otherwise unchanged squad which takes on a Stortford side who have collected 10 points from a possible 44 on the road so far this season.

Tuesday’s match referee is Michael Blackledge.

United Live coverage will be available throughout the evening.

League sponsors Blue Square Bet have the Pilgrims as strong 8/11 favourites to get back to winning ways. Stortford are quoted at 3/1 to win, while the draw is on offer at 5/2.
