Boston United 0-1 Grimsby Borough

by Craig Singleton

Grimsby Borough Reserves left The Jakemans Stadium with three points following Saturday’s Lincolnshire League clash against Boston United Reserves.

Daniel Beecham scored the only goal of the game as the visitors, who finished proceedings with 10 men, avenged their earlier home defeat at the hands of the Pilgrims.

United had enough chances to claim at least a point from the match — but ultimately came up short against one of their high-flying rivals.

The kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes after striker Charley Sanders was taken ill before the match — leaving the Pilgrims with only four substitutes.

Liam Ogden had the Pilgrims’ best chances — being denied in a one-on-one situation and then being thwarted again moments before the interval.

Borough took the lead on the hour mark when BEECHAM tried his luck from 25 yards and despite Ricky Drury getting a hand to the ball, he was unable to keep it out.

United cranked up the pressure late on, especially after Lee McFarland was red-carded, but Richard Jackson and Mitch Eustace saw their respective efforts on goal go unrewarded.

Boston (4-4-2): Ricky Drury; Mark Thompson, Lewis Sturman, Scott Dawson, Alex Thompson (Steve Lovett 75); Liam Ogden, Nick Bishop (Ryan Barker 82), Richard Jackson, Stuart Whitaker (Mitch Eustace 65); Tom Sergeant, Tony Edwards. Subs (not used): Charley Sanders, Martyn Bunce (gk).
