Boston United Reserves proved too strong for their Sleaford Town counterparts at Eslaforde Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Pilgrims’ second string were 8-0 victors after racing into a five-goal half-time lead.
James Reed, Nick Bishop, Richard Jackson, Jordan Nuttell and Tony Edwards afforded United a comfortable interval advantage — and two further Edwards strikes to complete his hat-trick and a late eighth from Steve Lovett completed a resounding away win.
Sleaford started well and stopped United playing early on. The Pilgrims soon got into the rhythm though and took the lead when REED drove home a deflected shot from 20 yards following a quick throw-in from Lovett.
United doubled their lead when Liam Ogden’s corner picked out BISHOP to volley the ball home at the back post.
Goal number three arrived following initial good play from JACKSON, who completed the move with a firm finish following Mark Thompson’s excellent right-wing cross.
Sleaford were buckling under the United avalanche and when Ogden and Reed played a short corner, Bishop nodded the ball back across for NUTTELL to apply the finishing touch from eight yards.
United added their fifth goal with only 28 minutes played. Ogden seized upon Sleaford hesitancy to slip EDWARDS through who made no mistake.
The Pilgrims’ good work was tempered by the loss of Nuttell to a nasty-looking ankle injury, with fellow youth teamer Charley Sanders deputising from the bench.
It took until the 72nd minute for United to add goal number six. Lovett and Jackson combined on this occasion in allowing EDWARDS to score his second of the afternoon.
EDWARDS completed his fourth hat-trick of the season with a headed effort over the advancing keeper three minutes later.
And the scoring was wrapped up five minutes from time when Sanders linked with fellow substitute Glen Ihama to tee up LOVETT to drive home United’s eighth.
