Scott Dawson had headed a first half equaliser for the Pilgrims, but strikes from Liam Wilkinson and Will Clifford afforded the visitors an interval lead.

With United peppering the Humbertherm goal for a second leveller, the visitors utilised their pace on the break and Daniel Trott applied two clinical finishes in the final 10 minutes to seal a 4-1 win for the Fulstow-based side.

Humbertherm were a threat on the break throughout and Trott went close to opening the scoring early on after being set clear by strike partner Nimmo.

United thought they should have been awarded a penalty when Bradley McLacklin appeared to punch Nick Bishop’s header off the line following a Liam Ogden corner, but referee Andy Redgard was unmoved.

Lewis Sturman then headed over the bar from an Ogden corner but the visitors were soon in front. WILKINSON played a brilliant one-two with Nimmo, before going on to prod the ball past Andy Hewitt from 12 yards.

The visitors were not far away from a second goal moments later when Stuart Inch headed marginally too high from a Wilkinson cross.

United levelled on 28 minutes when DAWSON powered home a header from an Ogden cross.

Humbertherm restored their lead five minutes before half-time when CLIFFORD blasted home a free-kick from fully 25 yards.

United stepped up their offensive after the break. Tom James crashed a header against the crossbar following an Ogden corner while Sturman had a header tipped over by keeper Craig Ritchie.

Mitch Eustace then skied a back post effort following Ogden’s cross while substitute Charley Sanders seem to ‘shoulder’ the ball wide after slightly misjudging an inviting Nathan Rawdon cross.

Steve Lovett whizzed a cross-shot across the visitors’ box which went unrewarded, before having a later effort tipped wide by Ritchie.

United were made to pay for missed chances when TROTT broke away following a towering Ritchie punched clearance to advance on Hewitt and finish with aplomb.

James somehow hit Ritchie with a close-range effort following a Tony Edwards cross, while Glen Ihama’s downward header flashed wide from a Mark Thompson centre.

Humbertherm well and truly wrapped things up when TROTT shrugged off Sturman to fire past an exposed Hewitt to cap a shock result.

Hewitt denied Trott in stoppage time, while Sanders clipped the crossbar with a cross-shot, as an action-packed second half concluded with the visitors celebrating a three-point haul.
