Boston United Reserves slumped to a 3-0 home defeat on the opening day of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League campaign.
With six key players missing for the day, a very youthful team was selected and it was the home side that started brighter and quicker creating four very good chances which all should have been finished off within the first 20 minutes.
Missed chances proved costly as Cleethorpes took a 25th minute lead through James DEEMING from the penalty spot.
Town doubled their lead a minute before half-time through DEEMING.
The second half started with three missed chances for the Pilgrims but Cleethorpes continued to press and were rewarded on 60 minutes when a free-kick was awarded for a sloppy tackle on the edge of the box.
The set-piece was expertly curled around the wall by Marc SAWYER, giving keeper Sam Vince no chance at all.
United lost the services of experienced defender Mark Thompson to a hamstring injury after only 10 minutes.
Boston (4-4-2): Sam Vince; Grant Butler, Lewis Sturman, Ollie Pinner, Mark Thompson (Jake Portas 10); Liam Ogden, Jake Beauchamp, Adam Lester (Keiron Elliott 50), Joe Briers; Jordan Nuttell, Dominic Thelen (Mitch Eustace 50). Sub (not used): Nigel Vince.
