Duxbury-Mead Double as The Pilgrims beat Appleby Froddingham

Striker Tracey Duxbury-Mead scored twice for the Pilgrims to maintain their 11 point lead at the top of the Lincolnshire County Womens League.

The Pilgrims were forced reshuffle the pack with 6 players unavailable for this fixture. Summer signings Kim Fairweather and Gabby Smith came in to squad for the first time this season and 16 year old Sam Davis was promoted to the senior side from the Girls Regional Talent Club U16s.

The Pilgrims started the game brightly with both Ellie Spendelow and Tracey Duxbury-Mead squandering great opportunities to put the visitors ahead. The youthful hosts created some half chances midway through the first half but rarely troubled keeper Olivia Clark. Further chances for the visitors kept the pressure on the hosts defence with the home goalkeeper making some fantastic saves.

The breakthrough came just before half-time where defender Demi Barai played an excellent pass in to the path of striker Tracey Duxbury-Mead who kept her cool and tucked the ball home with a fine finish.

After the break the Pilgrims started to dominate possession with a lot of the play down the left flank with good link up play from Hope Harold and Ellie Spendelow.

On 51 minutes Ella McGrorey found space down the right who found Striker Duxbury-Mead who claimed her second of the afternoon.

The Pilgrims now controlling the game seemed comfortable with retaining good possession of the ball. The hard working home team kept taking the game to the visitors but couldn’t find a way past the excellent defensive back five.

On 78 minutes, 16 year old Sam Davis was introduced for her first taste of senior football who looked comfortable and showed good composure on the ball.

Three minutes later Midfielder Toni McHamilton scored Boston’s third with a good finish to round up an encouraging performance by the ladies.

The Pilgrims maintain their 100% record in the league and are showing encouraging signs within their development. They are next in league action when they face 2nd place HBW United Ladies on 10th December.
