Craig Elliott’s side were beaten 3-2 at Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division newcomers Basford United but Wafula won the visitors a penalty, which was converted by a trialist, before scoring the Pilgrims’ second goal after the break.

Nathan Watson, Liam Hearn and James Reid struck the decisive goals for a Basford side managed by ex-Pilgrims Martin Carruthers and Mark Clifford.
