On a notoriously unhappy hunting ground, the Pilgrims battled their way to a share of the spoils against the struggling Quakers, although they did create the best chances.

Jimmy Knowles hit the crossbar in the first half, before seeing a second half 'goal' ruled out for offside.

Tom Edge was pressed into service at centre-half, with Michael Bostwick ruled out for the first time this season.

Chances were at a premium throughout - with United seeing their best chance go begging in the 31st minute. Finley Thorndike teed Jimmy Knowles up from the left - but United's number 11 fired his effort against the crossbar from around six yards out.

Darlington's best chance fell to Jake Lawlor four minutes before half-time - sending his header narrowly wide from a Will Hatfield free-kick delivery.

United thought they had broken the deadlock midway through the second half, but Jimmy Knowles was penalised for offside after turning home from close-range once Brad Nicholson had been denied.

There was a late save from Cameron Gregory to deny substitute Jacob Hazel, while Edge and Thorndike were both cautioned in stoppage time for time-wasting, but honours very much ended even.
