The first half was a poor spectacle and the game had just started to come to life after the break when Warrington's Matty Grivosti hauled down Sam Smart, clean through on goal, in the 59th minute.
Warrington kept United at bay and actually created the game's best chance in the closing stages when Isaac Buckley-Ricketts headed narrowly wide.
Both teams struggled to create during a cagey first half, with United going closest through a deflected Sam Smart effort and a Jordan Richards header which flew off target.
Richards fired wide when well-placed in the second half, while Keziah Martin blasted straight at Dan Atherton after wriggling through.
In between times, Grivosti was handed a straight red card after tripping Smart, who had exchanged passes with Sotona on the counter-attack.
United threw plenty at it during the remainder of the game, but Buckley-Ricketts should have scored for Warrington, with his near post header flying wide after connecting with Connor Woods' cross from the right.
