Brackley Town left The Jakemans Stadium with a crucial victory on Saturday afternoon as Boston United's play-off hopes took another massive blow.

The Pilgrims were undone by the Saints' only two efforts on target through David Moyo on 30 minutes and substitute Richard Batchelor three minutes into stoppage time.

Zak Mills reduced the arrears in the fifth added minute, but it was a case of too little, too late as United suffered their fourth successive league defeat and equalled their worst run of reversals since September 2012.

United were missing the services of Dylan McEvoy and Mark Jones ahead of kick-off, but Carl Piergianni was back in action after suspension. Lewis Hilliard made a return to the starting XI too.

The Pilgrims stared brightly and Scott Garner's early header was nodded off the line by opposing skipper Joe Clarke following Hilliard's corner. Jay Rollins' header subsequently flew wide following Grant Roberts' cross from the left.

Rollins' afternoon was brought to a premature end when he succumbed to a hamstring strain in the seventh minute.

His replacement Kaine Felix saw a drive held by keeper Sam Hornby following neat interchange between Dayle Southwell and Mills.

There was then a glorious chance for Hilliard at the back post but he dithered after meeting Felix's cross and Brackley debutant Jake Phillips somehow cleared.

Hilliard later dinked the ball into Conner Robinson's path but the on-loan striker could only fire wide of the far post.

Brackley's first attack of the day led to the game's opening goal. Matt Lowe's tame drive squirmed away from Fabian Spiess and MOYO lifted the ball home on the line.

Southwell and Mills had efforts charged away during a bright opening to the second half from the Pilgrims, while Mills' long throw was nodded on by Garner and Robinson lifted an effort over, on the stretch, from four yards.

United suffered a further injury blow when Liam Marrs received a ferocious whack on the ankle from Moyo, who was cautioned, and the home full-back was unable to continue.

Boston cranked up the pressure, with Garner's header tipped over by Hornby following Mills' throw while Hilliard's firm drive from 25 yards forced a decent save from the Burton Albion loanee.

Brackley wrapped up the points deep into stoppage time when Moyo outmuscled Joe Burgess down the Town right to cross for BATCHELOR to score arguably the easiest goal of his career.

There was still time for Hornby to make an excellent save to deny Garner and MILLS to stoop to force home the resulting corner at the back post, but United were beaten once again.
