Boston United boosted their play-off hopes with a comprehensive 3-0 home victory over Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday afternoon.

Carl Piergianni scored twice from Zak Mills' long throws to put the Pilgrims in control and Dayle Southwell weighed in with his 21st goal of the campaign to add the icing to United's cake.

Avenue had lined up with striker Liam Dickinson in goal, with regular keepers Jon Stewart and Ryan Jones unavailable, but United were worthy winners regardless.

Naming an unchanged line-up, the Pilgrims suffered an early blow when defender Joe Burgess succumbed to a hamstring injury. The returning Dylan McEvoy deputised from the bench.

By this point, Southwell had already seen a drive hacked off the line by Simon Ainge following a Dickinson flap. Conner Robinson then started but could not quite finish a neat move involving Kaine Felix and his shot flew too high.

Dickinson made an excellent save to keep out a PIERGIANNI header from a Mills throw but the same combination seconds later finally broke the deadlock for the Pilgrims.

Despite the home side's dominance, they were indebted to keeper Fabian Spiess for excellent saves either side of the half-time interval to deny Chib Chilaka.

United capitalised and doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half when PIERGIANNI powered home Mills' long throw for his second of the game.

Felix's deflected, looping effort was soon tipped over by Dickinson but United added their third goal with around a quarter of the contest to play.

SOUTHWELL was at his predatory best, poaching on the line after McEvoy's corner had been flicked on by the returning Mark Jones.

Substitute Cameron Johnson and Southwell (twice) were denied by frantic Bradford blocks as United chased further rewards, but the game was long since won.
