Boston United 2-1 York City
Boston United made a return to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as the Pilgrims picked up their first victory under Craig Elliott's management.
The Pilgrims trailed York City courtesy of Adriano Moke's 19th minute thunderbolt but turned the tables after the break.
Jordan Keane equalised nine minutes into the half and Ashley Hemmings scored the winner from the penalty spot in the 74th minute.
York opened at pace, winning numerous corners early on, but the Pilgrims were the first team to fashion a clear-cut opening, with James Clifton firing a 25-yard free-kick wide.
Sean Newton blasted an effort wide for York, while Hemmings sailed an audacious shot wide from distance with keeper Adam Bartlett out of his box.
George Willis saved well to deny James Gray but the Minstermen were soon a goal to the good when MOKE crashed home an unstoppable effort from 25 yards.
United rallied and Jay Rollins was denied by Bartlett at the near post following Brad McGowan’s cross from the Pilgrims’ right.
The Pilgrims levelled in the 54th minute when Hemmings’ corner delivery was not cleared and KEANE swiveled neatly to angle the ball home past Bartlett.
Willis made the save of the afternoon to divert Amari Morgan-Smith’s goalbond drive over the bar for a corner following Newton’s driven cross from the right on the hour mark.
Willis made another fine stop to deny substitute Aidan Connolly nine minutes later and it laid the platform for United’s eventual winning goal.
Clifton’s marauding run from his own half into the opposition box was ended illegally by Connolly and HEMMINGS duly sailed home the spot-kick.
United managed the remainder of the game well and came close to adding a third goal when Clifton’s stinging effort was beaten away by the legs of Bartlett in the York net.
