Solihull Moors inflicted defeat on Boston United at The Jakemans Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Pilgrims’ winless run at home continued.

Robbie Thompson-Brown’s 51st minute strike was enough to hand Solihull all three points following seven defeats on the bounce at the beginning of the campaign.

Mickey Stones and Mikel Suarez came closest for the Pilgrims in a bright opening spell, but the Pilgrims faded badly to suffer more home woes.

Stones and Suarez had been paired in a powerful attacking partnership, with Kevin Holsgrove relegated to the bench to accommodate Marc Newsham on the left.

The decision to partner Stones and Suarez almost paid instant dividends with three great chances inside the opening 10 minutes.

Stones saw a close-range header deflected into Jasbir Singh’s arms by Michael Blackwood, following Danny Sleath’s cross.

Singh then made a monumental save to keep out Stones’ goalbound header following Sleath’s left-wing centre.

Suarez then angled a header just wide following Ryan Semple’s corner as the Pilgrims’ good start went unrewarded.

Solihull gradually found their feet and had the better possession and chances throughout the remainder of the half.

Paul Bastock made a flying save to keep out Matthew Bell’s near post drive, while Dominic Langdon glanced a header wide from Andre Francis’ corner.

Jordan Fitzpatrick whistled an effort wide following Richard Walker’s expert hold-up play, while Thompson-Brown curled a shot inches wide of the far post moments later.

Thompson-Brown had the first chance of the second half when he swivelled to fire wide following Blackwood’s free-kick.

Solihull took the lead moments after Holsgrove had replaced Stones. Alex Price returned a partially cleared corner and THOMPSON-BROWN drove the ball beyond an exposed Bastock.

Boston tried to respond but were met by a resolute Solihull rearguard who were intent on claiming their first points of the season.

Semple’s looping header was gathered by Singh following Holsgrove’s cross, while Suarez got up well to meet Ben Milnes’ corner — but headed wide.

The closest United came was when Sleath set Holsgrove clear down the left, who cut infield to drill agonisingly wide of the far post.
