Boston United 2-0 York City
By Craig Singleton
Nicky Walker and Gavin Allott struck the decisive blows as Boston United secured a richly-deserved triumph over York City on Saturday afternoon.
United's leading goalscorers both found the net within a 12-minute spell after half-time to seal the Pilgrims' first league victory since October 27.
Walker's sixth of the season set the ball rolling and Allott tucked home his fifth goal of the campaign to wrap up three points for the hosts.
Manager Craig Elliott had named the same XI for a third match in succession for the first time in his tenure and the hosts were almost in front inside two minutes, with visiting keeper Adam Bartlett touching aside Ben Davies’ 25-yard free-kick.
Davies was heavily involved in United’s next chance and he saw his cross fired wide by Liam Agnew, under considerable pressure from York midfielder Kallum Griffiths.
York gradually grew in attacking confidence and ex-Pilgrim Jordan Burrow saw a header drop wide while Adriano Moke cut infield and blasted off target.
Bartlett spectacularly denied Wright at the beginning of the second half, while George Willis did equally as well to keep out Macaulay Langstaff.
The Pilgrims took a 51st minute lead when Wright managed to whiz across a low ball from the right flank and WALKER applied the finishing touch at the back post.
Twelve minutes later, the Pilgrims doubled their advantage with Agnew laying the ball on a plate for ALLOTT to sweep home from close-range.
United expertly closed out the contest although Alex Bray and Kennedy Digie saw good chances go begging in the closing stages, while Burrow missed a glorious chance from four yards to reduce the arrears.
