Boston United 0-2 Chorley
By Craig Singleton
Boston United meekly surrendered to National League North leaders Chorley as the Magpies extended their advantage at the top of the table.
Goals in either half from Marcus Carver and Elliot Newby sealed victory for the visitors, who chalked up a deserved 2-0 victory.
United keeper George Willis saved an Adam Blakeman penalty on the stroke of half-time, which subsequently saw Boston's Ben Middleton and Chorley's Alex Newby dismissed as the tempers flared.
Willis was forced into action early on, saving well to deny Courtney Meppen-Walter following a third minute corner.
United wasted their best first half chance when Gavin Allott crashed an effort too high after crafting a shooting opportunity.
The Magpies took the lead in the 33rd minute when Alex Newby clipped CARVER into the clear and he rounded Willis before sneaking an angled effort between the post and the retreating Ryan Qualter.
Chorley were afforded an opportunity to double their lead on the stroke of half-time when Middleton was adjudged to have fouled Carver and was booked for his protests.
Willis saved brilliantly to thwart Blakeman but tempers boiled over with Middleton grappling Alex Newby and the Chorley man kicking out in retaliation. Newby was red-carded initially and Middleton followed for a second yellow card offence.
United’s best second half chance fell to Jake Wright on the hour mark, but he headed wide from 10 yards following a cross from the left courtesy of impressive on-loan Chesterfield debutant George Smith.
Chorley wrapped up all three points in the 78th minute when Carver teed up Elliot NEWBY to angle a fine effort past Willis.
