Max Wright scored a spectacular equaliser as Boston United battled back to earn a deserved share of the spoils against York City on Saturday.

The Pilgrims trailed 2-0 at half-time courtesy of Sean Newton's stunning long-range free-kick and Macaulay Langstaff's close-range finish.

Jay Rollins reduced the arrears on the hour mark and Wright rescued a point with 12 minutes to play with a fine curling effort from 20 yards.

The Pilgrims made four changes to the side that had lost to Chorley seven days previously, with new signing Ryan Cresswell handed a debut at the heart of the United defence.

York took a 24th minute lead when they were awarded a free-kick 30 yards from goal and NEWTON stepped up to sail home a fabulous set-piece off the underside of the crossbar.

Matters took a further turn for the worse seven minutes before the break when George Willis was only able to parry Jon Parkin’s driven free-kick and LANGSTAFF tucked home the rebound from close-range.

York had a chance to kill off the contest two minutes after the break but midfielder Paddy McLaughlin blazed inches wide from 20 yards.

United came alive following their reprieve and Ryan Qualter dragged an effort wide following a George Smith assist, while Adam Bartlett denied Wright.

Tom Clare was introduced as a 59th minute substitute and United’s switch to 4-4-2 delivered instant rewards when Nicky Walker squared for ROLLINS to slam the loose ball home in front of Boston’s 260-strong away support.

United levelled when WRIGHT burst clear, shrugged off the attentions of David Mirfin before bending an excellent effort into the far corner of Bartlett’s net.

The home side should have re-asserted their lead when Willis denied Newton from distance, but substitute Wes York somehow bundled the loose ball wide at the back post.
