Guiseley striker Danny Forrest grabbed the only goal of the game as Boston United tumbled to defeat despite plenty of possession and chances.

Forrest struck in first half stoppage time, moments after Lewis King had spectacularly denied Gavin Rothery from the penalty spot.

United were well in the ascendancy after the break but Guiseley stood firm to repel the Pilgrims and boost their own ever-improving play-off hopes.

King had been recalled to the line-up ahead of kick-off, while Spencer Weir-Daley was handed a start too.

Guiseley's Gavin Rothery employed a shoot on sight policy in the opening stages and crashed four efforts of varying threat off target.

An excellent move involving Marc Newsham, Jake Hall and Conor Marshall saw the latter's glorious cross fractionally evade everybody in the box.

King was called upon to keep out an Alex Johnson strike with his foot, following Rothery's cross from the right.

United's Carl Piergianni, fresh from being named Skrill North player of the month, tested Steven Drench with a header following Ian Ross' free-kick.

Ross soon turned to the villain when he tripped Andy Holdsworth in the box, but King made a stupendous save, high to his right, to keep out Rothery's driven spot-kick.

There was nothing King could do on 45 minutes though, with FORREST blasting home a 20-yard bullet off the inside of the post.

United upped the ante after the break. Weir-Daley's early shot was saved by Drench following brilliant play from Liam Marrs and Newsham.

Weir-Daley then missed a glorious chance, slamming his angled drive over the bar, after Newsham had slipped him through.

Newsham's diving header flew wide from Scott Garner's tantalising cross before Garner himself teed up a shot which deflected marginally wide.

King made a brilliantly-timed stop at the feet of substitute Craig Hobson, who had exploited gaps to gallop free.

Drench replicated to clutch Stefan Galinski's low drive in stoppage time as United ran out of time to force a deserved leveller.
