Scoring sensation Marc Newsham grabbed two more goals as Boston United returned to winning ways at The Jakemans Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

He scored twice as the Pilgrims raced into a three-goal lead against Vauxhall Motors and although Louis Barnes and Danny Fearnehough soon cut the deficit to one, United were undeterred.

Ricky Miller scored a brilliant chip and Ian Ross added a late penalty to seal United's seventh home league win of the season, with makeshift striker Scott Garner being the Pilgrims' other scorer.

It was a welcome return to form for the Pilgrims who endured a winless December and the result never looked in doubt after United took the lead on 12 minutes.

Garner had already headed over the bar from a probing Conor Marshall cross, while Newsham steered the ball wide of a gaping net from 20 yards after Garner had charged down keeper Zac Jones' clearance.

United's breakthrough arrived when Ross' deep cross nodded down by Garner and NEWSHAM volleyed the loose ball home from close-range.

Ben Milnes' 25-yarder then deflected a fraction wide off Andy Nicholas, while the same United player was denied by a great Jones save at the back post.

United doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Milnes' corner bobbled around and GARNER got his head to the loose ball to bury it above Jones' grasp.

The Pilgrims moved into a seemingly unassailable lead seven minutes after the break when they added their third goal, with NEWSHAM forcing the ball home from close-range after Carl Piergianni had nodded down Ross' free-kick.

Motors immediately reduced the arrears with BARNES firing a free-kick low to Lewis King's left after Piergianni had fouled Shaun Tuck just outside the Boston box.

The visitors cranked up the pressure and King did well to beat away another firm drive from Barnes before FEARNEHOUGH ghosted in to head home Steve Wainwright's cross from the right.

United awoke from their slumber and Jones made two crucial saves to deny Miller, before Piergianni rattled the bar following Ross' corner.

Jones subsequently denied Milnes from distance before United added their fourth goal. MILLER broke clear before nonchalantly chipping Jones with real aplomb.

United scored goal number five when ROSS sent Jones the wrong way from the spot after Miller had been clumsily fouled by Tom Hannigan.
