Brackley Town edged out Boston United for the third time this season after leaving The Jakemans Stadium with a fortuitous 2-1 victory on Saturday.

Carl Piergianni's own goal on 72 minutes was ultimately the difference between the sides after Jamie McGhee had cancelled out Stefan Moore's sixth minute opener.

It was only United's second home defeat of the Skrill North campaign in their 16th home match to date.

There was little to choose between the sides, but Jon Brady's Brackley side left with the bragging rights for the third time in as many meetings.

Brackley were afforded the perfect start when MOORE picked his spot midway inside the Boston box to beat Sam Vince with a firm finish after the Pilgrims had failed to clear their lines.

There was a massive let-off for United moments later, with Ryan Austin heading Glenn Walker's corner against Vince's right-hand post before the Pilgrims survived an almighty scramble.

United gradually asserted themselves on proceedings and McGhee whistled a shot wide of Billy Turley's upright.

The Pilgrims levelled on 27 minutes when McGHEE fired a 20-yard free-kick around the Brackley defensive wall and into the far corner to beat the diving Turley.

Brackley went close again before the break, with Izak Reid blasting wide from inside the box following Walker's cross from the left.

United had two big chances at the start of the second half, with Newsham glancing a header wide following Vince's long kick downfield while Spencer Weir-Daley slipped McGhee into the clear but his angled drive beat Turley and the far post.

Brackley were close to retaking the lead when Steve Diggin whipped an effort wide of Vince's far post but it was not too much longer before they were back in front.

Walker fired a cross-shot back across the box which appeared to be heading wide, only for the unlucky PIERGIANNI to inadvertently deflect the ball beyond his stranded goalkeeper.

United huffed and puffed in pursuit of a second leveller, with Turley saving routinely from Miller, before the same United player blasted an effort over the bar after surging into the box.

Piergianni thought salvation had arrived deep into stoppage time, but he could only head wide from Ian Ross' deep corner delivery.
