Striker Ricky Miller grabbed a hat-trick, including two stoppage strikes, as Boston United staged a miraculous comeback at Barrow on Saturday afternoon.

United trailed 4-2 heading into added time but Miller fired the Pilgrims back into contention and then added his third in dramatic style from the penalty spot.

Miller had earlier given Boston the lead, only for Duran Reynolds and Gareth Arnison to turn the tables before the break. Arnison and Niall Cowperthwaite added further goals which looked like rendering Ben Milnes' stunning long-range strike nothing more than a consolation, but Miller had other ideas.

The match was played at a high tempo throughout and Barrow will be disappointed not to close out victory after twice holding a two-goal lead but the Pilgrims showed an abundance of resilience to come roaring back.

With Ian Ross recalled in the place of Ben Fairclough, United reshuffled their midfield pack, with Jay Dowie, Jamie McGhee and Liam Agnew supporting the two United strikers.

Lewis King made crucial saves to deny Tom Corner and Arnison either side of United's opener on eight minutes. Agnew clipped MILLER into the clear and he beat Tony McMillan with a crisp close-range finish.

McGhee rolled an effort wide for United from 18 yards, while Ted Cribley's shot deflected a fraction wide for Barrow, although the Bluebirds levelled from the resulting corner with Boston-born REYNOLDS planting a brilliant header into the top corner.

United had a chance to retake the lead when Miller slipped Marc Newsham into a shooting position, but his angled drive flashed into McMillan's side-netting.

Barrow took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Corner headed on McMillan's long kick and ARNISON finished brilliantly across King into the far corner.

The Bluebirds increased their advantage on 57 minutes when Cribley sent ARNISON clear to roll the ball beyond an exposed King.

United responded and cut the deficit within four minutes, with substitute MILNES crashing home a beauty, left-footed, from 20 yards.

The Pilgrims threw bodies forward and McMillan saved well from Agnew while Scott Garner sliced his effort wide after stretching to reach McGhee's cross. Spencer Weir-Daley then crashed an effort too high.

Barrow added their fourth goal with nine minutes to play when COWPERTHWAITE raced through to drive a firm drive past King to seemingly kill the contest.

United had a strong penalty shout turned when Miller tumbled under Paddy Lacey's challenge but he was booked for diving.

MILLER reduced the arrears as the board was hoisted to indicate four additional minutes with a firm finish past McMillan and two minutes later he was finally awarded a penalty after being brought down in full flight.

Spot-kick duties fell to MILLER once again and he blasted the ball down the middle to complete his hat-trick and the Pilgrims' stirring comeback.
