Boston United served up a brilliant performance to keep their season alive and severely dent North Ferriby United's title aspirations in the process.

The Pilgrims were full value for a 2-0 victory over title-chasing Ferriby on Easter Monday, courtesy of goals in the final 20 minutes from Jamie McGhee and Ricky Miller.

Ferriby's Danny Hone was red-carded for striking Miller off the ball and conceding the penalty which clinched Boston's 15th home win of the campaign.

The result ensured United's fate will not be decided until the final day of the season, with the Pilgrims needing to win at Worcester City and requiring Gloucester City to take all three points at Guiseley.

The match was tight and tense throughout and despite two outstanding saves, one in each half, from keeper Lewis King, Boston merited their win over Billy Heath's title chasers.

Opening exchanges were scrappy, with Ferriby keeper Adam Nicklin clutching a Carl Piergianni header from a McGhee corner.

King excelled for the first time to keep out Nathan Jarman's volley at the back post following Danny Clarke's deep cross from the Villagers' right.

In response, a fierce Miller drive flashed off target after the Pilgrims' top scorer had outpaced Mark Gray down the United left.

Nicklin made a brilliant double save when he first denied Miller and then parried Liam Agnew's goalbound follow-up.

Miller missed a glorious chance at the beginning of the second half when he blasted wide with only Nicklin to beat after surging through a static Ferriby rearguard.

King made another top save to claw Danny Clarke's drive to safety after Jarman's free-kick had been blocked by the Boston wall.

Boston took the lead on 70 minutes when Rene Steer delivered a telling ball from the left and once Nathan Peat and Gray had made a hash of clearing it, McGHEE pounced to sweep home from 12 yards.

United doubled their lead in bizarre circumstances 10 minutes later. Miller went down in the box under a challenge from Hone. No penalty was awarded and Hone took issue with Miller going to ground before striking the Boston striker on the back of the head.

Referee Michael George quickly awarded a spot-kick and dismissed Hone for violent conduct and MILLER blasted home the penalty for his 28th goal of the campaign.
