Construction of Boston United's eagerly-awaited Community Stadium is well under way — with steelwork being erected on the ground's north stand.

The 'Town End' of the Community Stadium is currently being assembled — with erection of steelwork on the main west stand set to commence on Monday (September 23).

The club's steelwork contractors Britcon (UK) of Scunthorpe have delivered to The Quadrant and are rapidly assembling the structure at the Tytton Lane East end of the new stadium, with United officials on-site on Tuesday morning to check the progress.

Over 350 tonnes of steel will be used on the whole Community Stadium project over the coming months.

It represents a positive start to the construction process, which is geared towards the aim of the Pilgrims playing at the new Community Stadium for the 2020-2021 campaign.

Reflecting on the latest developments at The Quadrant, United chairman David Newton said: "A lot of work has taken place below ground and at ground level, so it's nice to see the structure of the building now taking shape.

"The initial steelwork on the north stand should complete this week and the steel erection starts on Monday on the west stand, so if all goes to plan in around six or seven weeks' time, the frame and terracing on the main stand should be complete.

"We are currently on programme, so hopefully the weather will continue to be kind to us and allow the good progress to continue. My thanks go to the construction team and contractors who are doing a fantastic job."

United first team manager Craig Elliott was also present on-site on Tuesday morning.

Costa Coffee, Burger King, Greggs and Starbucks are all now open as The Quadrant as a whole gathers pace.

Supporters are, meanwhile, reminded to stay off-site as the new stadium location remains an active construction site.
