Nathan Arnold and Jonathan Wafula scored the goals as Boston United chalked up their third win of the National League North campaign on Tuesday.

Arnold's 45th minute opener and Wafula's 73rd minute strike sealed United's victory despite a later red card for full-back Ashley Jackson and a subsequent reply from Boro substitute Enoch Andoh.

The Pilgrims were once again good value for their three-point haul but were made to sweat in the closing stages after Jackson's dismissal ahead of seven minutes added time.

Boro arrived at The Jakemans Stadium without a league goal to their credit so far this season, but they cam close to breaking the deadlock in the 14th minute when Kairo Mitchell skipped clear to angle an effort across goal and wide.

Visiting keeper Louis Gray, back from suspension, saved well to deny Spencer Harris after defensive partner Ryan Qualter had nodded down Arnold’s deep free-kick delivery.

Wafula subsequently forced Gray into a smart save at his near post as the Pilgrims cranked up the pressure, with Adam Marriott soon drifting a further effort wide.

Wafula was at the heart of the action as the Pilgrims took the lead on the stroke of half-time with a driving run at the heart of the Boro defence and the ball landing kindly for ARNOLD to drill home from 20 yards.

Only a fine covering challenge from Ash Carter stopped Brad Abbott doubling United’s lead after the break following a fine assist from substitute Nicky Walker.

Walker was instrumental in United’s second goal with 17 minutes remaining. Arnold’s deep crossfield punt was retrieved by the Boston sub and his sublime pass inside allowed WAFULA to smash the ball home from an angle.

United were well in control but the match swung in Boro’s favour in the 78th minute when Jackson was dismissed for a challenge on Michael Tweed.

With the Pilgrims still reshuffling, Boro took full advantage and ANDOH tucked home Curtis Obeng’s driven ball from the Nuneaton right.

Wafula struck the crossbar with an audacious, angled effort from 25 yards with keeper Gray absent from his goal, but United managed the rest of the game well and claimed all three points despite near to seven minutes of additional time.
