Boston United suffered their first home defeat of the National League North campaign after coming up short against Spennymoor Town on Saturday.

The Pilgrims were undone by Rob Ramshaw's 18th minute strike and Glen Taylor's effort 11 minutes from time as United failed to turn territorial dominance into clear-cut chances.

It was the second season in a row in which the Moors had ended United's 100 percent start to the season on home soil.

Spennymoor took the lead when a straight ball down the middle of the pitch afforded RAMSHAW a clear run on goal and he finished expertly through George Willis’ legs.

Willis made solid saves to deny Shane Henry and then Ramshaw as the Moors threatened to move out of sight but the Pilgrims continued to press forward at every opportunity and enjoyed plenty of the ball.

The closest Craig Elliott’s side came before half-time was through Ben Middleton’s diving header from a Nathan Arnold corner which flew wide and then Brad Abbott’s effort skewing wide following Nicky Walker’s expert cutback from the left.

United attempted to crank up the pressure after the break and Henry made a block to keep Abbott’s stinging drive at bay.

Substitute Jonny Margetts was a lively presence and he forced Matt Gould into a smart save following Middleton’s cross from the right.

Rob Atkinson headed over the bar from a Ryan Hall corner before the Moors doubled their lead in the 79th minute when TAYLOR sailed home a low effort which deflected off Middleton to leave Willis wrong-footed.

Willis saved well from Ramshaw and Henry in the dying moments as Spennymoor closed strongly to take all three points back to the northeast.
