Boston United chairman David Newton has issued an update following the club's elimination from the Emirates FA Cup on Monday evening.

Mr Newton commented: "Following our fantastic FA Cup run, I would like to the thank all fans for their fantastic support and, in particular, those fans who supported the team over the five away fixtures.

"In particular, the support at Carshalton Athletic and Rochdale will live long in the memory.

"Once the replay had been secured, a huge amount of work was undertaken to prepare for the home fixture and I would like to thank all staff at the football club; the Community Foundation staff; all volunteers and Lincolnshire Police for all their help in ensuring that the evening ran smoothly and safely. The aim was to create a great atmosphere to not only give the team great support, but also showcase our fantastic football club to a wider TV audience and judging by the feedback we have received, that was certainly achieved.

"It cannot be overstated how important fans are during football matches. We have a great squad playing attractive football, so I hope as many as many as possible from Monday evening come back to support us as we try to gain promotion at the end of this historic season for the club.

"Despite the disappointing result, Monday evening was a fantastic evening that none of us will forget. The team gave everything; The Jakemans Stadium was rocking; the Community Foundation were well-represented and we were on live TV.

"It really did feel like the good times were back, however things were slightly marred by the throwing of flares and an idiot who thought it would be a good idea to bring a laser pen to a football match.

"We already have some information and photographic evidence of those involved, but I also appeal to anyone at the game to pass on any information that will help us and the Police to bring the matter to a conclusion.

"Huge thanks go to Craig Elliott, the backroom staff and the whole squad for giving the club such a memorable FA Cup run in the final season at York Street. Our stated aim at the outset was to do well in the league this season, so to have a cup run on top has been the icing on the cake, culminating in a night to remember on Monday evening – thank you!

"We are back in National League North action on Saturday against a very good Gateshead side where three more important points are up-for-grabs, so please come again in huge numbers to support our fantastic team in this historic year.

"Finally, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a happy, healthy and successful 2020.

"Thank you for your ongoing support."
