Community Captain formally named

Community Captain formally named

Craig Singleton13 Feb 2023 - 09:08

Boston United's Community Captain was officially unveiled during the half-time interval of Saturday's home fixture against Darlington.

To celebrate 30 years of the Premier League, they are sharing a range of unique and varied stories reflective of the competition and clubs' rich histories.

These stories will demonstrate an individual's or group's commitment to their club and/or community.

All clubs have been asked to select their own Community Captain, whose story can be shared as part of the celebrations.

The criteria was "someone who was an active member of the club/community" – and the club had no hesitation is putting this person forward.

He started off as a player for one of our community teams. From there he became more involved with coaching in the club, by first being a volunteer and then becoming an apprentice.

He then became a full-time member of staff – and built his role at the club from there.
He has been a valuable part of the Boston United Community Foundation for some years now.

He's a coach whose aim is to always make a positive impact on the participant's life, whether they be a child or an older aged adult.

During Covid, he came to the fore, delivering daily online content to keep everyone engaged and active. All this delivered from his home.

He goes out and delivers the Premier League Primary Stars programme and has achieved some amazing things, building teachers' confidence in delivering PE, impacting the community doing a social action project, delivering high quality PSHE lessons, and after school clubs.

Not only does he deliver this programme, but he is the assistant foundation phase lead, he coaches an under 13s boys academy team, as well as an under 15s boys community team.
Alongside these he takes a walking football session which provides the older generation an opportunity to still play football and socialise with others.

On a Friday he takes a learning disability group, providing them with a chance to be active and to interact with different people.

To sum up his story, he is a coach who goes above and beyond delivering everything which we as a club provide, making him a well-known person around Boston.

Many people who think of Boston United, think of him.

The person named Boston United Community Captain is Lewis Cook.

Lewis was photographed with community manager Nick Reeson and chairman David Newton.

Congratulations Lewis!
