Newsham has three matches — including the Lincolnshire Senior Shield final — to become the first United player since Gary Jones in 1992 to reach the magical 30-mark in a single season.

His quest begins at the Glassworld Stadium against Dennis Greene’s former club Histon, who have been plunged back into a relegation fight following Colwyn Bay’s sudden resurgence.

The Stutes, who suffered a 6-0 defeat at The Jakemans Stadium earlier in the campaign, looked to have climbed clear of danger but have lost their last three matches.

Greene expects to have a fully-fit squad to choose from for the trip to Cambridgeshire, as the Pilgrims contest their final away league match of the campaign.

Last season’s corresponding fixture ended 3-1 in United’s favour, courtesy of goals from Newsham, Danny Sleath and Jason Lee.
