Pilgrims looking for FA Cup magic

Pilgrims looking for FA Cup magic

Craig Singleton25 Sep 2015 - 08:57

Boston United enter the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday when they make the short journey to face Gainsborough Trinity at The Northolme.

The second qualifying round encounter, with £4,500 prize money up-for-grabs, will be the 149th meeting of the Lincolnshire rivals.

Trinity were 1-0 victors over the Pilgrims on August 29 — their first home win over United since 1996 — and Steve Housham’s side will be aiming for more home success on Saturday.

For Dennis Greene and his United side, meanwhile, it will be an opportunity to cast aside an indifferent start to the Vanarama National League North campaign with a tilt at reaching Monday’s third qualifying round draw.

Greene will check on the fitness of striker Mark Jones, who missed last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat against AFC Fylde after tweaking a hamstring during the Pilgrims’ 3-2 win at Corby Town on September 16.

Kaine Felix is still sidelined with an ongoing ankle problem.

United loan players Jordan Richards, Lartey Sarpong and Aaron Greene all have permission to play from their parent clubs.

With seven substitutes permitted, Cameron Johnson and Harry Limb could come into contention following their midweek scoring feats for the under-21s and youth team respectively.

Should Saturday’s match end all-square after 90 minutes, the replay will take place at The Jakemans Stadium on Tuesday (September 29).
