Pilgrims primed for FA Youth Cup clash

Pilgrims primed for FA Youth Cup clash

Craig Singleton6 Dec 2011 - 09:00

Tuesday evening is FA Youth Cup third round night at The Jakemans Stadium (kick-off 7.00pm).

Boston United entertain npower Championship giants Burnley for the right to progress into the fourth round draw.

The Pilgrims have never made it beyond the third round stage — and Steve Welsh’s cup kings will have their work cut out against table-topping opposition.

Burnley currently top the western section of the Football League Youth Alliance and were 3-1 victors over Rotherham United in the Youth Alliance Cup at Gawthorpe on Saturday morning.

The Football League side have five youth internationals in their squad — including two Scots, two Irishmen and one New Zealander.

The Pilgrims have won six matches to book their big date with the Clarets. United’s cup run started on September 7 and has included victories against Lincoln United, Mickleover Sports, Pinxton, Stourport Swifts, Burton Albion and Bradford City, with the Pilgrims scoring 20 goals in the process.

Steve Welsh has a full squad to choose from for the Burnley clash — and is likely to keep faith with the side which defeated Bradford in the second round.

The Jakemans Stadium — with the exception of The Jakemans (Town End) Stand — is open for spectators from 6.15pm ahead of the 7.00pm kick-off.

Those not in attendance can follow the action on Twitter via @bostonunited.

The match, which has been kindly sponsored by Richard Maxwell and Guests, will be decided by extra-time and penalties if necessary.
