Four of United’s signings – Jamie Grimes, Jake Rooney, Lennon Wheeldon and Ken Aboh – have previously enjoyed loan spells at the Jakemans Community Stadium but a dozen players could make their competitive debuts for the club.

Dylan Hill is a definite absentee with a shoulder injury, while Hurst will assess fellow midfielders Gavan Holohan (calf) and Connor McBride (hamstring).

Aboh is in contention to play after completing his loan move from Norwich City on Thursday morning ahead of training with his team-mates.

The Pilgrims will be aiming for a first home victory over Aldershot, following a 1-1 draw in 2024-2025 and a 2-0 defeat last season. United have won both visits to the EBB Stadium (2-1 and 3-2).
