Work on Boston United's eagerly-awaited 3G pitch is now under way.

The works will form part of the overall Community Stadium development at The Quadrant – including the Pilgrims' brand-new home ground and eventual community sports hall.

The state-of-the-art artificial grass pitch will provide a new facility for not only the club's vast array of community teams and organisations but will be available for wider community use.

Details of how to book the new facility will be made available by the club in due course.

This part of the stadium development is being funded predominantly by The Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund, which is managed by the Football Foundation. The contractors for the project are Tiger Turf/McArdle Sport Tec who have vast experience in delivering these types of projects.

Work is scheduled to conclude in July – with the pitch ready for use ahead of the 2021-2022 season.

United vice-chairman Neil Kempster, pictured with McArdle Sport Tec site manager Jamie Slater and United head groundsman Jim Portas, said: "We are delighted that work has now begun on this important part of the stadium development which will provide the next phase of facilities here at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

"The provision of the artificial grass pitch will help to provide the sporting hub that we are seeking to create for the local community.

"The pitch is due to be ready for the start of next season and will provide a fantastic facility not just for the many teams run by Boston United but also for the wider community in the town. It will help our community department expand its many different programmes and will be a major asset to the town's sporting infrastructure.

"We are most grateful to the Premier League, Football Association and Sport England who have provided the vast majority of the funding for this part of the project via The Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund.

"The huge community benefits from the facility were a major factor in securing the funding which has been administered by the Football Foundation."
