Boston United Supporters Association chairman Steve Slater – alongside fellow United walking footballer John Sykes – were part of the England side which progressed from the group stage to defeat France 3-0 in the final.

The United pair were joined by former Pilgrims' midfielder Graham Collier, who made 40 senior appearances for the club in the early 1980s.
