Youth will get chance - manager

Rob Singleton3 Aug 2012 - 05:02

Youth will get an opportunity to impress this season at Boston United — so says boss Jason Lee.

In particular, he outlined the fact that throughout the pre-season build-up so far he had paid special attention to the performances of the younger brigade he has pitched into action — his latest view coming in the 2-2 draw against a Hull City XI in midweek.

Lee said: “It was important we gave the young lads another chance to show what they can do. We started with an extremely young back four, but we simply have to know if the lads we put in can cope with things like the demands of competing at Blue Square North level.

It was important to get 90 minutes into Travis Munn and the likes of Lewis Sturman and Jason Field will have benefited from more time on the pitch. We are looking at them as back-up for the first team. If they meet our requirements, we might not have to get other people in on loan.”

In addition, he said that in attack, the likes of Jordan Nuttell and trialist Korey Dyer-Street also have the chance to make an impression.

“It’s my philosophy that clubs like ours need to bring players through the youth system, into the reserves and then into the first team. If youngsters see the carrot is there, then we hope they take their chances.”
