Boston United 0-2 North Ferriby United

Second half goals from Jason St Juste and Ryan Kendall killed off the Pilgrims' knockout hopes for another season.

Greg Tempest and Marc Newsham were both brilliantly denied by visiting keeper Adam Nicklin in the first half, but the Pilgrims failed to muster much of a response after falling behind to St Juste's opener.

The result denied the Pilgrims a second round home clash against Hyde FC in the New Year.

Chances were at a premium in the opening stages, with Nathan Jarman’s curling effort narrowly evading Joel Dixon’s crossbar.

Nicklin excelled to keep out Tempest’s dipping 20-yard volley, while Ferriby striker Tom Denton headed well wide following Jamie Yates’ cross from the right.

Newsham’s angled drive was then beaten away by Nicklin after outstripping Mark Gray down the Boston left.

With the game in the balance at the break, the first goal was always likely to be key and Boston threatened twice at the beginning of the half.

Kaine Felix did well to retrieve a lost cause but cut infield to blaze over the bar from 20 yards while Kyle Dixon got himself into an excellent shooting opportunity 20 yards out — but his finish was wayward.

The game’s defining moment arrived on 72 minutes when Liam Marrs was caught out by a long clearance and ST JUSTE nipped round Joel Dixon to roll the ball home.

Boston piled everything forward in the closing stages but were caught on the break in the fifth additional minute with substitute KENDALL getting away from last man Steer to stab the ball past exposed keeper Dixon.
