Joe Maguire and Marcus Marshall had set the Pilgrims on their way inside six minutes, but the tie turned on Bradley Bauress' fine free-kick on 20 minutes.

Rob Hopley quickly equalised and Thomas Owens added a brace before the break to ultimately seal United's elimination.

The Pilgrims had got off to a dream start with MAGUIRE spectacularly smashing home Taylor Miles’ fourth minute corner.

Matters got even better two minutes later when MARSHALL stooped to head home a left-wing cross and seemingly put the Pilgrims on course for progression.

Witton’s comeback started in the 20th minute when BAURESS stepped up to curl a delightful free-kick into the back of the net from 22 yards, off the inside of Michael Emery’s right-hand post.

Parity was restored five minutes later when HOPLEY rose highest to power home Bauress’ cross from the right.

Nine minutes before the break Witton edged in front when OWENS capped a flowing move with a neat finish from inside the penalty area.

OWENS then waltzed through on the stroke of half-time to pick his spot and beat Emery with aplomb from 12 yards.

United’s response was muted, with on-loan York City defender Ben Clappison going closest with a header wide at the back post following Marshall’s deep cross.

Tolani Omotola carried Witton’s primary threat on the break during the second period and he went close on three occasions late on, with one effort striking the post.

Bauress and Hopley were also close to further goals as Witton threatened to extend the winning margin.
