Boston United turned in a five-star showing to ease past Haughmond in Tuesday evening's Emirates FA Cup replay in Shropshire.

Captain for the night James Clifton led the way with two goals for the Pilgrims, with Jay Rollins, Gregg Smith and Kabongo Tshimanga also on target in a dominant away performance.

United's reward is a third qualifying round trip to AFC Mansfield, who upset the odds to topple higher-ranked Rushall Olympic.

Pilgrims’ boss Adam Murray had opted to make three changes to his line-up ahead of kick-off, with Liam Wakefield, Jamie McGuire and Jack Broadhead all starting.

Wakefield’s inclusion allowed Clifton to move further forward and he played a full part in the Pilgrims’ victory.

United’s first goal arrived with 20 minutes played. Wakefield’s drive deflected over for a corner and from his own partially-cleared flag-kick, CLIFTON cracked the ball home from 18 yards.

The Pilgrims doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when ROLLINS motored through the offside trap to beat Sam Jones from the edge of the box.

United’s dominance continued with Jack Thomas seeing a shot held by keeper Jones before McGuire had a long-ranger deflected over.

Chances arrived after the break too, with Smith volleying marginally wide and Rollins seeing an effort well saved by Jones in the Haughmond goal.

Smith played CLIFTON into a shooting position on the hour mark and the marauding right-sider cut inside on his left foot to finish well from 18 yards.

Clifton returned the favour, in conjunction with Thomas, to lay the ball on a plate for SMITH to roll home number four three minutes later.

Clifton subsequently rattled the crossbar as his hat-trick moved closer while Jack Broadhead missed two gilt-edged chances for United.

The Pilgrims finally added their fifth goal on the stroke of full-time when TSHIMANGA was flattened in the box before picking himself up and converting the spot-kick to seal United’s big win.
