The Pilgrims upset the formbook to humble the Coasters in their own back yard, with Elliott striking in the 80th minute and from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.

United will now travel to York City on Saturday for the chance to earn a long-awaited return to the National League.

Paul Cox had been forced into three changes ahead of kick-off, with Scott Duxbury and Jake Wright Jnr deemed only fit enough for the bench, while Jake Wright Snr was unavailable altogether. Keenan Ferguson, Connor Dimaio and Ntumba Massanka started in their places.

Chances were limited in a tight first half, with Elliott firing wide for the Pilgrims and Nick Haughton lifting a free-kick over the bar for Fylde.

United stepped up a gear after the break and keeper Chris Neal made a fine save to keep out Shane Byrne's goalbound free-kick.

Fylde had a half-chance with Douglas Taylor firing into the side-netting from a Haughton cutback.

Neal made a brilliant 73rd minute save to deny Elliott - but was powerless to stop ELLIOTT angling home United's opener seven minutes later following a partially-cleared Byrne corner.

Byrne made a brave block at the other end to repel Haughton's fierce free-kick - and United wrapped up their victory when Wright Jnr was hacked down in the box and ELLIOTT clinically dispatched the spot-kick on the stroke of added time.
