Kaine Felix netted his first goal for Boston United as the Pilgrims fought out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Tamworth on Bank Holiday Monday.

It could have been even better for United though, leading through Felix's 79th minute strike until three minutes from time, having already seen Dayle Southwell's penalty saved by James Belshaw.

Kayden Jackson rescued the Lambs from the brink of defeat and the result was arguably fair on the balance of play, with Tamworth bossing the first half, while United were on top during a vibrant second period.

Felix and Chris Dickinson were handed starts for the Pilgrims ahead of kick-off, while Matt Gledhill was once again preferred in goal to Sam Vince.

Leon Mettam, a summer transfer target for Dennis Greene, carried Tamworth's biggest goal threat before the break, having a shot-on-the-turn deflected wide before heading wide at the near post following a Kevin Thornton corner.

United threatened meaningfully when Southwell's low 25-yard bullet deflected agonisingly wide of Belshaw's right-hand post.

The Pilgrims were much the better team after the break, despite playing up the slope at the Lamb Ground, with Zak Mills' fizzing drive marginally clearing the Tamworth bar after a lightning quick break involving Southwell.

A magnificent block from Dan Preston then denied Southwell a seemingly certain goal after a barnstorming Felix surge through the middle.

Gledhill saved well to keep out a Mettam drive, with referee Daniel Meeson correctly allowing play to continue despite a wrongly-raised offside flag.

Belshaw saved well to deny Scott Garner before conceding a penalty by bringing down substitute David Fallah. The keeper more than redeemed himself though with an excellent save, to his right, to keep out Southwell's driven spot-kick.

Danny Meadows' looping header almost capped a man-of-the-match performance but dropped over the bar from Felix's deep cross.

United finally went in front with 11 minutes to play when Mills slipped a quick free-kick into Southwell who was denied by Belshaw's save, only for FELIX to roll the rebound home in front of the Pilgrims' 208 travelling fans.

The lead lasted eight minutes, with Gledhill failing to hold Thornton's shot from distance and JACKSON scrambled the ball home from close-range.

There was one further chance for United, with Garner volleying over from six yards following Mills' knockdown, but both teams were relatively content with a point apiece.
